A longtime Bermudian mover and shaker has been recognized for his contribution to one of the island's most important industries.

Coco Reef Resorts owner John Jefferis was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Caribbean World magazine at a ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, in London, recently.

After accepting the award, Mr. Jefferis said, "More and more the defining point of excellence in the resort business is perfect service.

"We can and will build more luxurious properties, with increasingly complex technological innovations. However with flawless, friendly, personal service, the investment in these properties will never meet their full potential," he said.

One of Bermuda's top hoteliers, Mr. Jefferis owns and operates resorts in Bermuda, Tobago, and is currently in the midst of building a third in Panama.

He is also the owner of Island International Ltd, a hotel management company whose latest project involves managing a group of hotels in Belize.

Mr. Jefferis' also owns Inflite Catering, an airline catering firm with operations in a number of Caribbean islands.

"We are delighted to honour Mr. Jefferis," 'Caribbean Life' publisher Ray Carmen said, "Not only for his great achievements, but also for his engaging personality and charisma."

Others who have received the Lifetime Achievement Award in the past were Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, chairman of the Sandal Resorts Group; and John Issa, the originator of the all-inclusive hotels concept and owner of the Superclubs Group, which has resort properties throughout the Caribbean and South America.
