WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11: A three-masted superyacht owned by tech mogul Jim Clark left Bermuda this morning after spending Easter here.

The Athena – once the world’s biggest privately-owned yacht – set sail for Newport, Rhode Island, and is scheduled to arrive on Friday.

At nearly 300ft long and with 200ft masts, the schooner attracted a host of sightseers at her berth off Ordnance Island, St George’s.

She weighs in at 1,126 tons but can reach a speed of 18 knots under sail. Yachting websites put her value at around $100million.

A spokesman for the Maritime Operations Centre said: “She’s a beautiful-looking vessel and a lot of people came down to see it.”

The Caymans-registered Athena was built in Holland for Netscape founder Mr Clark, 68, in 2004.
