Deloitte Bermuda is sponsoring Staesha Pitcher to attend the Global Young Leader Conference in Washington D.C. and New York City this summer.

The Berkeley Institute S3 student will be at the conference which runs from July 8-18.

It teaches talented teens about diplomatic, social and economic history, allows them to explore and debate present policies, and prepares them for national and global leadership in the future.

Miss Pitcher, 17, was nominated as a global scholar by a teacher, and has a series of accomplishments under her belt, which includes the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, several appearances on the honour roll, and involvement in youth programmes including the Centre for Talented Youth and Bermuda Glee.

Miss Pitcher works as a junior staff Member at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo, where she started as a volunteer before being offered a staff member position because of her work ethic and abilities.

Top student

She will be one of the top students from over 100 countries to attend.

Describing her expectations of the conference, Miss Pitcher said in a press release: “It will expand my cultural awareness and cultivate my leadership skills.

“I will form new ideas and perspectives by taking part in simulations that will challenge me to look at ongoing world issues from various points of view.”

Rachelle Frisby, director in Deloitte Bermuda’s Financial Advisory Services practice and a member of the Philanthropic Committee, commented: “Deloitte remains committed to the development of outstanding talent in young Bermudians.

“We are delighted to support Staesha in this endeavour, which could be a formative moment in her personal development and career.”
