FRIDAY, FEB. 23: Attorney General Kim Wilson announced that the new Mental Health Court would soon be opening.

She said the Ministry of Justice would continue to provide financial backing to the Right Living House and the Transitional Living Centre to help prisoners receive support and treatment before they returned into the community.

Ms Wilson said: “We are now in the final stages before bringing in the Mental Health Court.

“The treatment programme is designed to assist people with mental health challenges rather than put them in Corrections.

“We need to provide specialist treatment to address their needs.”

A total of $58.5 million has been set aside for the Ministry of Justice.

The Attorney General said that the Substance Abuse Centre in Dockyard should be open in September.

She added: “The priority of implementing programmes to protect the public from violent offenders and the rehabilitation of offenders remains a priority.”
