THURSDAY, JANUARY 3: Applications are now open for the Bermuda Foundation For Insurance Studies ‘Intro-to-Insurance’ Summer 2013 Intern Programmes aimed at giving any student who is considering a career in the insurance sector an understanding of the industry and the opportunities open to them.

Only 16 undergraduate or graduate students will be selected to spend just 2 weeks immersed in the insurance industry either Bermuda, London, Chicago or Atlanta. This short time-frame means it is possible for students to get time off from their summer employment to participate. Although the internships are unpaid, BFIS covers all the costs and gives students a stipend.

In the words of one of last year’s participants, Devin Page studying for his Masters in Business and International Affairs at Georgia Institute of Technology, “The internship went incredibly well and exceeded all of our expectations. I personally have amassed a pile of 75 business cards, ranging from new underwriters to the CEO of companies. Everyone was so open and willing to share with us that we all learned more than you can imagine.”

The 2013 dates for the Bermuda programme is May 27 – June 7, London – June 3-14 and Chicago and Atlanta - July 8–19.

Cathy Lapsley, Executive Director of BFIS said, “If any student wants to come in and discuss the programme with us before they return to college, we would be delighted to meet with them. They just need to call 295-1266 to set up an appointment. The BFIS office is in the Cedarpark Centre in Hamilton across from the bus terminal.”

Applications are only accepted through www.bermudascholarships.com and the deadline is March 29, 2013.
