MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28: Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) chief Anthony Knap has stepped down after 34 years in the job.

Dr Knap, president and director of BIOS, will be replaced by Dr Nicholas Bates, a senior research scientist and assistant director of research at BIOS, while a global search for a suitable replacement gets underway.

In a short statement, Brian Duperreault, chairman of the BIOS board of trustees, said: “Effective today... we have accepted the resignation of Dr Anthony Knap, President and Director of BIOS, after 34 years of service.”

He added: "A global search has commenced for a permanent replacement for the Director’s post and we hope to be able to make an announcement in due course.”

Dr Knap is understood to have resigned for personal reasons.
