Let the hype begin.

Ironically, Apple used the song Gigantic to tout its iPhone 5S and 5C, but the iPhone 6 will be the one to have bigger screen sizes. Several media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times, are reporting that when the new iPhones go on sale this fall, the iPhone will have 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes.

iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S have a 3.5-inch screen.

Rumours have been swirling since March that the latest iPhones would come with larger screen sizes.

The WSJ added that Apple is expecting an increase in demand for the bigger phones and has asked suppliers to producesbetween 70 million to 80 million iPhones for its initial order. That would be between 11.7 per cent to 60 per cent more phones than they produced for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, which had an initial order between 50 million to 60 million.

Apple has taken some flak and lost some ground to rivals like Samsung, who made phones with larger screens. Samsung went to a bigger screen size in 2012 with a 4.8 inch model with the Samsung Galaxy S.

Traditionally, Apple releases a new iPhone model in mid-September.

Samsung has already rolled out a new commercial poking fun at the new iPhones.

Entitled ‘Screen Envy’, it shows two men sitting together and on their phones.

One man smiles and says “Dude, Apple might be getting a bigger screen.”

His friend replies: “That hasn’t happened yet?”

The first man wrinkles up his face as the narrator interjects: “You know that thing you’ve been waiting on for like two years and how it’s supposed to be awesome and how it’s going to blow your mind? Well, it’s been here this whole time.

“But maybe you just like waiting.”
