You’ve invited the whole family over for Christmas. The aroma of turkey and stuffing is wafting through the house. Mouths are watering in anticipation of the succulent, moist bird with all the sides. You go to the stove and realize the turkey has stopped cooking.

Then the pit begins to rise up in your stomach and knot in your throat as you realize there’s no gas left in the cylinder.

You only have to have that happen to you once to realize you never what to go through that embarrassment again.

That’s why Bermuda Gas is hoping to take the guesswork out of when it needs to be refilled with its new mini-tank service.

Ernest Marshall, commercial account coordinator for Bermuda Gas, told the Bermuda Sun, “We’ll monitor it, we’ll fill it and send you the bill. Everything will be done for you.”

He said it doesn’t get any easier than that.

Mr Marshall said the rate is slightly less than the normal service and the cost savings are passed on to the consumer.

There will be no more swapping of cylinders. “We’ll go there and top it up,” Mr Marshall said. “We’ll allow the tank to go down to about 25 per cent.”

He said Bermuda Gas will figure out how much you average per day and when it hits the 25 per cent mark, their computer will send out a notice to the refill team to go to a customer’s house.

Mr Marshall said a person’s barbecue or outdoor pit may be connected to the mini tank, saving on the need to have multiple tanks.

He said another advantage is “during hurricane season, the 100-pound cylinder tends to blow over if you don;’t tie them down. With the mini tank, they are lower and wider, they are sturdier. With them being sturdier, there’s less of a chance of them leaking during a hurricane”.

Bermuda Gas will do a free survey to see if a person’s house can accommodate the new mini tank.

Mr Marshall said: “If your site meets the viability test, we will replace your current installation with a mini tank in the existing location, with the first $250 of installation time at no cost to you.”

He said most installations will be free of charge to make the switch.

Bermuda Gas will be conducting surveys from March 25 to April 10.

Bermuda Gas will be just one of 49 exhibiters at the Coldwell Banker Home Show on Friday and Saturday at CedarBridge Academy. The doors will be open on Friday from 3pm to 8pm and Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
