There are plenty of entertainment and activity options on the Norwegian Breakaway.

Last week I covered the myriad of places to eat and drink on board, and in order to avoid packing on the pounds from gorging yourself with food, you might try to burn off some of those calories.

It is part of a three-story sports complex that also has five water slides, a full-sized basketball court and rock-climbing wall.

The ropes course has a variety of options including a zip track and is the largest one ever built on a cruise ship.

Perhaps, for those who are not afraid of heights, you’ll try The Plank, a board that extends eight feet over the side of the ship

The Norwegian Breakaway also has the more kid-friendly rope course to help keep them moving and entertained.

Water slides

The Norwegian Breakaway is the first ship to have five water slides, which also includes the fastest one at sea, Free Fall. Guests will stand up and have the floor drop from underneath them, leaving them with a waterslide adventure like none other on a cruise ship.

There are also side-by-side twister slides called the Whip, that twist around each other and has a two person race to see who can get to the bottom first.

For those who like their water slides to be more sedate, there is a more family-friendly water plume.

Kids will be sure to enjoy their own Aqua Park, which features Spongebob Squarepants and his friends from Bikini

But the Nickelodeon experience doesn’t end there, as the Breakaway will also have a Pyjama Jam Character Breakfast which will allow the little ones to meet some of the TV channel’s favourite characters.

They will also have Dora the Explorer Dance Party and a Story Time with Dora.

Besides those activities for kids, there will also be character meet and greet times as well as activities featuring Nickelodeon’s famous lime green slime.

Nickelodeon will also play a major role in the two-story Splash Academy, an area designed specifically for children aged three to 12.

There will be seven main type of shows on the Breakaway, including three Broadway shows. There will be other musicians performing onboard but these are the ones not to miss.

A shortened version of Rock of Ages — the one that helped make Bermuda’s Rebecca Faulkenberry famous — will hit the
main stage.

The musical is set on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood and features such 80s songs as We Built This City, The Final Countdown and Here We Go Again.

Burn the Floor is another Broadway number and is described as “sizzling and sexy” by the NY Times. Dancing takes centre stage as the group performs the Foxtrot, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Rumba and many more styles.

Cirque Dreams and Dinner Jungle Fantasy looks fantastic.

I’ve seen the previews of this and the costumes are amazing as are the moves from the entertainers.

It’s performed on the big top Spiegel Tent onboard and features contortionists, jugglers, magicians, and aerialists to give you a circus feel.

The Howl at the Moon headliner show has two pianists taking requests from the audience of
songs from the 70s

The Second City will have a comedy club on board. Featuring members of their troupe.

This is where people such as Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey paid their dues on their way up to stardom.

For those who love their jazz and blues, they can be entertained at Fat Cats. The room has been designed to have the feel of a New York jazz club.

What’s cool is you will be able to watch the five-piece orchestra both inside and outdoors as it is located on The Waterfront promenade.

One option not to miss is the Spice H2O Fireworks show.

The fireworks comes at the conclusion of the 80s-themed dance party and will feature songs such as Whip It, Come on Feel the Noise, Cherish and Purple Rain as fireworks blast off into the night sky.

I’m on the Breakaway today through Sunday so next Wednesday I’ll have a review of some of things I saw and ate.
