A new show by artist and educator Kendra LaVonne Earls explores love and healing through positive beauty and grace.

Her show Candle-Lite, Love’s Takin’ Over, is her second major show in Bermuda and is inspired by the 1930’s art of Italian/Parisian Amedeo Modigliani.

The show opens tomorrow evening at Common Ground café on Chancery Lane, Hamilton.

Earls told the Bermuda Sun: “My first show in Bermuda was a show for Masterworks and BSoA and it was very successful — I sold everything. It was painting — acrylic on wood and mixed with charcoal — and the colours were more royal blues, purple red and gold. I used very rich, earthy colours. The works were abstract and cubism and the theme was buildings.

“This time, I have to say, it is me transforming. The work is a lot lighter which is where the candlelight came in. This is more spring, light and love — the lightness of life and love. It has a very feminine energy. It lends itself to that revealing elegant, feminine and strong compositions, with elements of modern depth. Modigliani is also a big influence in this show.”

Earls teaches art for the Kaleidoscope and Seasons Learning and does therapeutic art for clients at Westmeath and for Matlida Smith.

“I’m putting a lot of my love back into my work.”

The collection of 24 pieces includes some portraits and still life.

As she sells her work she will replace them with new works. Her series will evolve throughout the summer.

The opening is tomorrow evening from 5pm to 7pm.

Earls added: “The prices are very modest. The pieces are smaller but they are very visually stimulating. They range from $175 up to $350.
