WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27: Last Friday saw the conclusion of the Bermuda Anglers Club International Light Tackle Tournament (ILTT).

Going into the final day of competition three of the eight teams were poised to take the title of Championship Team for 2012.

That said, a great day on the water on the last day of competition would have been sufficient to catapult one of the lower placed teams into the lead.

The final day of the event was marked by an increase in wind and sea conditions and a very fickle bite.

By the time the tournament boats reached the weigh station at Barr’s Park and the points were tallied, local team Double Down Byes emerged as the Championship Team. Three Reel Anglers (Bahamas) and Team Reelax (USA/Bermuda) took second and third place honours respectively.

Costa Rica

The Championship team has earned the right to go on and fish in the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Offshore Championship Tournament to be held in April 2013 in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Local angler Brian Lines, and member of the Double Down Byes, emerged as the angler with the most points in the tournament and won a watch donated by Crisson Jewellers.

Visiting anglers from Trinidad accounted for the High Point Fish on the first and second day of competition.

Playmate, captained by Kevin Winter and assisted by mate Chris Burgess, was the High Point Boat for the 47th annual tournament.

Surplus proceeds from the ILTT will be used to fund a dedicated Junior Tournament in August 2012 to allow the young people of Bermuda to connect with the sport of fishing in a family friendly atmosphere.

The Bermuda Anglers Club would like to thank the generous support of the Department of Tourism, Aspen, Goslings, Rowe Spurling, Sea Hawk, Crisson Jewellers, The City of Hamilton, AAC Saatchi & Saatchi, Sticks and Stones, Island Glass, Marine Locker, Butterfield & Vallis, Southern Cross Cable Network, Flybridge Tackle, The MarketPlace, Pro-Tone and Asyd Design.
