Looking for somewhere to take the kids for a bite?

Who’s going to give you a more honest, bite-sized review than a 10-year-old? Eliza Olander, from St David’s, is a student at St George’s Prep.

Location:
Island Cuisine, Middle Road, Southampton (near Heron Bay).

First impressions:
The place looks very friendly. Very welcoming. And when I came in everything smelled really nice. It’s very Bermudian.

Drink:
Sunkist Strawberry soda [$1.75].

Main course:
Fishcake sandwich [$5.95] with fries [$3.75]. I have been craving a fishcake with tartar sauce for weeks. And this tastes just like the fishcake I have been dreaming about.

It tastes so deliciously perfect. The fishcake is fantastic. Cooked to perfection. And the fries are good.

Half-hearted question:
Would you like to try some of my fishcake, uncle?

Portion size:
The fishcake was not too big and not too small.

But I would recommend that they serve fewer fries so that you can concentrate on the main dish.

Dessert:
Chocolate cream pie [$5]. It’s nice to have a sweet pie but the chocolate pie itself is just a little too sweet. Sure, it’s dessert and it has to be sweet, but just not so sweet.

Service:
The waitress is very kind.

Overall experience:
This is a kid-friendly place and not too fancy. Sometimes the restaurants that are quite small make the best food.
