FRIDAY, JUNE 29: Kyle Sousa has been behind bars since he was 17.

He was jailed for life in 2009 along with Vernon Simons and Shannon Tucker for the brutal murder of Matthew Clarke.

Mr Clarke was bludgeoned over the head with a metal pole and stabbed 26 times.

Yesterday Sousa publicly apologised for his actions.

He said: “To my victim’s family I am deeply sorry.

“I do have a lot of remorse.

“I know what it is like to lose someone you love.

“Sorry is all I can say and it won’t bring him back. I made a mistake.”

Sousa said his years in prison had given him a chance to grow up.

He added: “This prison has shown me a lot of growth.

“To those people who say it’s easy — they should stay one hour here and experience this.

“I have grown up here and all my freedom is gone.

“This is something serious.

“You are throwing your life away if you come here.

“I miss my family, this is definitely not a hotel, but they have programmes to help you cope and they helped me.”
