WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19: The island’s best breeds will get the chance to qualify for Crufts at this weekend’s Bermuda Kennel Club Dog Show.

It’s the first time dogs from Bermuda will be able to use on-island competitions to get through to next year’s internationally acclaimed dog show.

This weekend’s show will include obedience trials as well as best in breed competitions. Around 70 dogs will be taking part in the event with pets being flown in from the U.S. and Canada.

Internationally qualified judges from North America will also be on island for the show.

Carole Havercroft, show chairman, said: “This is a great opportunity for dog owners in Bermuda to qualify for Crufts.

“It should also encourage owners from Canada and America to come over to Bermuda and take part if they know they can qualify for Crufts. The breeds are broken down into seven groups and the winner of each group will be able to qualify for Crufts as well as best puppy and best veteran. It is very exciting for everyone involved.”

The dog show will begin at Somersfield Academy in Devonshire at 8:30am on Saturday. Admission is free.
