One man was killed and one man is in critical condition from a traffic accident early this morning.

Police said at 12:55am they responded to a single vehicle accident on Harrington Sound Road just east of Paynter's Road in Hamilton parish. Police have confirmed that Nikko Robinson-Woodley was the 21-year-old who was killed in the accident.

A spokesman said: "It appears that a motor car was travelling on Harrington Sound Road when the driver of the car lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree. Nikko was taken to the hospital via ambulance where he later was pronounced dead at 2:08am. A 23-year-old Smiths' man was extricated from the vehicle by Bermuda Fire Service, he then was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition in the ICU with multiple injuries.

"An investigation into the unfortunate fatality is now underway and police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have seen Nikko Robinson-Woodley prior to the collision, please contact PC Roger Fox of the Roads Policing Unit on 2950011.

"The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and this marks the first fatality for 2014."

Shadow Transport Minister Lawrence Scott said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Nikko Robinson-Woodley. on behalf of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party, I would like to extend our prayers, sympathy and support to his family and friends during this time of bereavement."
