The island recorded its seventh and eighth road fatalities overnight as two motorcyclists died within hours of each other in separate accidents. According to Police, at around 1.55am on Sunday morning, first responders attended a serious single vehicle motorcycle collision on Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton Parish, near the junction with Cedarberry Drive.

It appears that a male motorcyclist collided with a roadside embankment and a stone pillar. He apparently succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was subsequently pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Efforts are currently underway to identify the deceased.

UPDATE, SUNDAY 9PM: “The male motorcyclist fatally injured in a reported serious single vehicle motorcycle collision along Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Cedarberry Drive around 1:55am Sunday, July 20th has now been identified as a 32 year old Pembroke man. No further information regarding the deceased will be released until the next of kin have been notified. Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses to this collision should contact the Roads Policing Unit on telephone number 247-1788.”

Later, at approximately 3.45am on Sunday morning, first responders attended a road collision involving two motorcycles on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Evans Bay Road.

It appears that a 23- year-old Hamilton Parish man riding a motorcycle collided with another motorcycle carrying a female rider and a female passenger. 

The male motorcyclist was seriously injured and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was subsequently pronounced dead, making his death the eighth road fatality for 2014. No further information regarding the deceased will be given until the next of kin have been notified.

The 25-year-old St. George’s woman and 27-year-old Sandy’s woman also injured in the collision are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
