Staff at the Bank of Butterfield have been acknowledged for their generosity after participating in a blood donor day.

Some 14 staff members signed up to donate blood at the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre at King Edward Memorial Hospital in a Butterfield Blood Donor Day last week.

Sean Lee, Executive Vice President, Head of Bermuda Retail Banking, and one of the employees who donated blood, said in a press release: “In Bermuda, we’re fortunate to have world-class health care services available to us at KEMH.

“But the hospital’s ability to carry out emergency treatment and many procedures depends on the availability of donated blood.  One out of three people will need blood in his or her lifetime.

“If it’s not you, you will likely have a friend, neighbour, family member or co-worker who needs a transfusion at some point. One pint of blood can be used to save up to three lives. There is always a need for donations.”

Mr Lee added: “The staff at the Blood Donor Centre are very helpful and accommodating, and they made things very comfortable for our employees — both veteran donors and first-timers.  I would encourage other organisations to contact the Blood Donor Centre and set up employee donation days to help KEMH maintain its blood supplies.”
