The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and the Bermuda Sun are partnering for a first-of-its-kind social media summit to provide local businesses with strategies for engaging with their customers and growing their revenue through this rapidly expanding medium.

The two-day summit, Making Social Media Work for Your Business, will take place October 17 and 18.  

It will include presentations from international experts in the field, panel discussions on social media tactics and lessons from case studies with local context.

Coral Wells, chair of the Chamber’s business technology division (BTD), said: “We’re putting the finishing touches on a robust agenda for this conference and those details will be released soon, but today we want to make sure business owners, managers and marketing professionals save the dates of October 17 and 18 on their calendars.”


She said the BTD division is an advocate in helping local companies grow their operation with technology.

“The BTD is an advocate for business technology advancement, encouraging the use of global technology standards.   

“We feel this social media summit fits into our advocacy and will be a valuable asset to our members and local businesses alike.

“We anticipate this being the first in a series of technology seminars hosted by the BTD which will provide exposure to emerging technologies, fostering innovation and creating opportunities for Bermuda’s Technology Community.”

The Bermuda Sun is a Chamber of Commerce member and brought forward the idea to  the B-tech division as a potential partnership for the broader Chamber membership.

The Sun has redoubled its commitment to social media in 2013 as a way to better engage with its readers on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and other platforms.


Glenn Jones, acting general manager for MediaHouse, the parent company of the Bermuda Sun, said: “The Sun is a community newspaper and social media has exploded in our community — not only at a social level but commercially too.

“Our people have become experts in social media and we see this summit as timely, economically important and a fulfilment of our mission to serve our community ‘beyond the headlines’.”
