SATURDAY, FEB. 11: Hundreds of islanders popped into the Phoenix stores today to get a glimpse of nine incredible Lego creations.

The 2012 Lego Contest attracted nearly 100 young entrants - almost double the number that took part last year.

The nine finalists were chosen by the judges and invited to bring their creations into Hamilton this afternoon to see who would walk away with the top prizes.

The competition was divided into three age groups and the winner of each category got a trip for themselves and a parent to Legoland in Orlando.

Zaire Lodge won the four to seven-year-old category with his Lego Gombey creation. He won the trip for two to Orlando and a $75 Phoenix gift voucher.

Sachiel Ming was runner up and got a $50 gift voucher while Diana Babeckas got third place and a $25 gift voucher.

Enrique Russell's incredible 9/11 tribute came top in the eight to 12-year-old class. Conor Sinclair was the runner up and Joshua Simons came in third.

While Marcus Pimentel's ship creation claimed the 12-18-year-old title. Blake Outerbridge came in second and Binyam Edwards was awarded third place.

Organiser Jackie Napier-Marsh said the judges were really impressed by the standards of the entrants.

She said: "It was very hard to pick between the winners.

"You could tell everyone had put a lot of work into their Lego creations.

"We were really pleased by how many people entered the competition this year and we plan to run it again next year.

"Everyone had a great day and the nine finalists should be very proud of their efforts."
