There are no challengers to the OBA leadership as the party prepares to hold its annual conference.

Premier Craig Cannonier and Deputy Premier Michael Dunkley appear safe in their seats, while the position of party chairman has also not been contested. Thad Hollis will continue to serve another two years in this role.

The OBA’s 2013 conference takes place on Saturday 19th October at the Fairmont Southampton Resort, and is open to all party members.

A party spokesman said: “At this event it had been expected that the membership would elect a leader and deputy leader to four-year terms, and the chairman and deputies to two-year terms. However, we are delighted to be able to announce that the leader and deputy leader have not been challenged and will be continuing to serve in their current roles for the next four years.  Congratulations to Messrs. Craig Cannonier and Michael Dunkley respectively.”

As no nominations have been received for two deputy chairman positions, the party will try to fill them in the New Year. Mr Hollis said: “I interpret these election results as evidence that the members of the Alliance support their leadership and wish to allow the current team to forge ahead and fully implement our vision.

No complication

“I think they realize that we inherited a government that was in much worse shape than we expected.

“I think they are pleased with the progress that has been made so far, and I think they want to give our Parliamentarians every chance to get on with the business of getting Bermuda back on track without complication.”

At the conference, Mr Cannonier and his Ministers will update members on the work they have been undertaking in their various portfolios.

The themes of the conference are ‘Recovery, reform, renewal’ and ‘On track, moving forward’.  Party members will also have an opportunity for one-on-one discussions with their representative in Parliament.

There will also be a fund-raising event for the Eliza Doolittle Society, which distributes food to the homeless and those in need. The conference starts at 7pm.
