We are lucky to live in Bermuda where most of the time the sun is shining and the weather is on our side.

During this time of "Going Green," it only makes sense to start implementing renewable energy practices to utilize the elements that mother nature has provided us with. The idea of living an eco- friendly lifestyle is starting to catch on and we are very excited to be a part of the growth and knowledge being shared with the island to promote this lifestyle.

Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources. Bermuda enjoys an abundance of these such as sunlight, wind and rain. In the past few years, the practice of installing solar panels on homes and offices to curb the often high power costs and reduce the emission of air pollutants and hazardous waste often generated by electrical plants has increased ten fold.

Although the initial cost of installing solar energy products in your home may seem high, in the long run, the average home makes up the cost and can see a return within five years.

One of the first companies on the island to offer all the necessary components to retrofit a home or incorporate alternative energy systems into new construction was SOLAR Bermuda.

Island weather

Initially started out of passion for renewable energy, SOLAR Bermuda has grown into a full service, knowledge-based company introducing the benefits of solar power to the general public. We have found that the products available in this industry are uniquely qualified to take advantage of our island weather. There are over 19,000 homes on the island using electricity to generate hot water, these homes could be switching to solar hot water systems and saving up to 30 per cent off their electrical bills.

When considering solar power for your home, solar experts recommend installing a solar hot water system first and foremost.

In most cases, a system can last up to 25 years usually with only minor servicing needed over the course of its lifespan. Here in Bermuda heating water accounts for 20 per cent of residential power usage, however in some cases, this number can be as high as 50 per cent. A solar hot water system can be installed in as little as three days and there is no import duty for solar energy products.

In the past year alone, there has been a considerable increase in the amount of buzz and interest of homeowners and commercial property owners looking into alternative energy systems.

As a company, SOLAR Bermuda is excited to share with the residents of Bermuda what we have learned through trade shows and educational course work throughout North America. Although it still seems a bit foreign and intimidating for many, once the information and benefits are shared the decision should be relatively simple.

New way of living

Bermudians and industry professionals are striving for a more cost effective and environmentally responsible way of living. The renewable energy industry is constantly evolving and the design of its products is consistently improving.

SOLAR Bermuda, along with the participation of our island residents is committed to reducing carbon based power consumption by providing residents with information and access to industry technology. Together we can help build a better, environmentally conscious, and sustainable community.
