Today, Edmund Gibbons Limited announced the donation of $500,000 to the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust – a non-profit organization whose goal is to raise $40m for the King Edward Memorial Hospital redevelopment fundraising campaign.

Edmund Gibbons was an entrepreneur who began a successful business venture which evolved into Gibbons Company. Gibbons Company was eventually incorporated and the holding company – Edmund Gibbons Limited – was established. Edmund’s wife, Winifred, dedicated her life’s work to philanthropic and charitable efforts while serving 25 years as Deputy Chairman of the Hospitals Board.

“I know that this contribution will help honor my mother’s commitment to healthcare in Bermuda, as well as my father’s dedication to Bermudian entrepreneurship and business development,” said Sir David Gibbons, CEO of Edmund Gibbons Limited and son of Edmund and Winifred Gibbons. “It is an honor to make a donation that will help the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust develop a world-class medical facility.”

“The legacy and commitment to our hospital by the Gibbons Family is demonstrated through this gift from Edmund Gibbons Limited.  Notably Winifred Gibbons’ investment has been invaluable,” said Wendy Augustus, Executive Director of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust. “This generous gift will have a profound impact on the health and well-being of our community.”

Edmund Gibbons Limited remains a family-owned entity comprised of several independently owned businesses including Gibbons Company, Colonial Insurance, Bermuda Motors and Burrows Lightbourn and a minority owner of Capital G Bank Limited.
