Premier Dr. Ewart Brown will ­present the keynote speech at an awards ceremony honouring the Progressive Group on the 50th ­anniversary of the Theatre Boycott.

The Trailblazer Awards Banquet will also pay tribute to late Health Minister Nelson Bascome.

The respected PLP veteran died from a heart attack aged 53 in July. The Trailblazer Awards will celebrate people in our society who fought for social justice and have contributed to community development.

Guests at this weekend's event include Neletha Butterfield, Minister of Culture and Social Rehabilitation.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Theatre Boycott, which saw the end of racial segregation in theatres and other public buildings.

The Trailblazer Awards will be held on Saturday at Fairmont Southampton Resort's Poinciana Ballroom from 7pm. A reception will begin at 6pm.
