MONDAY, DECEMBER 5: New Senator Diallo Rabain was today confirmed as the ruling PLP’s candidate for Hamilton South.

He will take on the mantle for the PLP in the seat held by Darius Tucker. Mr Tucker was elected for the former UBP but later crossed the floor to the PLP.

Mr Rabain said: “That doesn’t make me nervous and I’m happy to say Darius will be working alongside me. It doesn’t matter whether the fight is tough or easy, it’s about getting the message to people and getting them to believe in you.”

Mr Tucker won the UBP seat comfortably in 2007, with more than 56.5 per cent of the vote compared to the PLP’s Wayne Caines’ 43.4 per cent.

Mr Rabain added: “Every seat must be won on the doorstep – hard work, community service and spending time generally listening to the community are the values I intend to bring to the constituency.”

Introducing Senator Rabain at the PLP’s Alaska Hall headquarters, Premier Paula Cox said: “He’s one of the young Bermudians who have come forward to represent the PLP in the next General Election.

“I’m pleased and proud to see this new generation step up to the plate to take part in the political life of our community.”

Sen. Rabain, an electrical engineer by profession, runs a landscaping and surveying company set up with two partners several years ago.

He served as a reserve police officer in both the east and west of the island and is Junior Minister for Youth, Families and Sports.
