Patrick Nisbett is in — how many more equestrians will qualify for this year’s Pan Am Games?

The Bermuda Equestrian Federation hopes the answer is five.

To that end, they have organized The Royal Bermuda Ascot Garden Party and Horseshow as a way to raise funds for the expensive sport to help defray costs for the riders in their attempt to participate in this year’s Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in October.

They include World Equestrian Games show jumper Patrick Nisbett, Olympian Jillian Terceira, as well as Raishun Burch, Annabell Collins and Virginia McKey.

Michael Cherry, president of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation, said: "We wish all of the riders well in their quest to reach the required standard for the Pan America Games and congratulate Patrick in achieving that already."

Michael Collins, chairman of the BEF International Committee, said: PThe International Committee has assigned liaison officers to riders.

“The officers offer their full and unfettered support by way of regular communication and attendance at horse shows where they are competing.

“They also assist them where possible to achieve the capability standards set for the Games and in this regard they are all progressing well.”

The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 15 from 2pm to 5pm at Ocean View Farm on St. Mark’s Road.

The Royal Bermuda Ascot party will include show jumping, gymkanas, as well as music by Toni Robinson, The Bermuda Pipe Band and the Somerset Brigade Band. Tickets are $100 and are available from Aberfeldy Nursery, All Wrapped Up, Argonaut Limited, Penny Terceira (238-0244), Jenny Watlington (295-4139) and Roz Collins (238-0972).
