THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6: The Ministry of Transport has announced that the new Norwegian Cruise Line ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, has been approved for deployment to Bermuda, commencing in 2013.

Currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard Germany, and with a carrying capacity of up to 4,000 passengers, the Norwegian Breakaway will replace the Norwegian Star, making 22 calls from New York City for the 2013 season.

“The Norwegian Breakaway will be Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship and it is a credit to Bermuda that Norwegian Cruise Line wishes to deploy the ship here for her inaugural season”, said The Hon. Terry Lister, Minister of Transport.

“Bermuda is one of our more popular destinations, and I thank the Bermuda Government for approving the Breakaway for 2013” said Kevin Sheehan, Chief Executive Officer for Norwegian Cruise Line.  “Norwegian Cruise Line will work closely with the Government to ensure that adequate transportation services and activities are provided for our guests”, said Mr. Sheehan.

The Breakaway announcement will be made in New York City on October 6, with the Minister of Transport, the Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line and the Mayor of New York planning to be in attendance.
