Fraser Hunt was crowned Bermuda Amateur Match Play champion at The Mid Ocean Club on Saturday.
Hunt had overcome Joshua Cabrera in the semi-final 5&3 to set up a 36-hole final meeting with Ben Hodge, who had deposed of defending champion Jarryd Dillas in a major last-four upset.
In high winds, Hodge made a slow start and after 18 holes, Hunt was four-up and seemingly on his way to a comfortable win.
But Hodge was far from done and with two holes remaining, he was only one down. At the par-three 17th, though, Hunt sunk his par putt after Hodge had missed his to seal a 2&1 win and win the trophy.
In the women’s flight, Ebonie Burgess produced a strong opening 18 holes to go seven up over Linda Down and it was a lead she never relinquished as she went on to record an 8&7 win.
In the men’s senior division, the 18-hole final was won by Max Atherden, who beat Craig Christensen 5&4.
