SKAL Bermuda recently awarded two deserving students $8,000 in scholarships. Asha Shaylah Akilah Hassell and Simon John Benevides are the recipients of the 2013-2014 SKAL scholarship awarded to students studying Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Asha received $5,000 towards her studies at West London College in Tourism and Hospitality Management. Asha cites her mother, who works in the hospitality industry, as her inspiration. Asha has prepared for a career in the industry by gaining work experience in both England, Holland and in Bermuda. This summer, she interned at the Reefs Beach Club.
Simon John Benevides was awarded $3,000 and is entering his third year in the Bachelor of Commerce degree in Tourism Management at the University of Guelph. He has worked at Rosewood Tucker’s Point and interned this summer at the Four Season’s Hotel in Toronto and the Department of Tourism’s office in New York city. Upon graduation, he hopes to gain more international experience before returning to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Bermuda.
SKAL is a professional organization of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. SKAL International has approximately 20,000 members in 450 Clubs throughout 85 nations.
