Earlier today, the Minister of Public Safety the Hon. Michael H. Dunkley, JP, MP, gave the opening address at the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP) conference held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

This year’s conference theme is “Securing Our Future”.

On behalf of the Premier, the Minister welcomed the participants indicating that the Government is working on legislation specific to their area of legal practice.

STEP has over 13,000 members worldwide spanning the legal, accountancy, trustee, banking, insurance and related professions.

The Minister said, “I am pleased to note that there is a legal working group drafting Foundation legislation and that is being reviewed by the Attorney General’s Chambers.”

Minister Dunkley reminded the practitioners that Bermuda is open for business, and that the Government was already demonstrating its commitment to turning around Bermuda's economy by implementing key policy changes.

“You can be assured that this Government is committed to working with you to remove those barriers that impede business,” Minister Dunkley said.

The Minister was joined by Minister without Portfolio, the Hon. Leah N. Scott JP, MP who is a member of the Society and a practitioner in the area.
