Daniella-Jadeâs story
DJ, see above with her dad, Darren, was born with Spina Bifida, a condition that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Her school is on two levels. While this does not pose too much of a challenge in her first year, come September, a solution will have to be reached as the majority classes are one-storey up.
ãWe are trying to get to grips with a stair track, but we would love to see an elevator put in,ä said Mr. Lowe. ãNot only for DJ but for other disabled children.äRight now though she said, ãI get to do mostly everything that everyone else does. I even do a modified PE. In class I am the pitcher.ä
But she did not let her disability stop her from taking part in a walk-a-thon, in which she did well.
Asked if she feels that she misses out on anything because she is in a wheelchair, DJ said: ãI do miss out on business studies, design and technology and music. I would really love to take these subjects. I also would like to be able to walk and play some more games in gym.ä[[In-content Ad]]
