Exhibit closures during construction at zoo
TUESDAY, JUNE 28: A construction project underway at Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo (BAMZ) will force the temporary closure of some outdoor exhibits over the next few weeks, according to Bermuda Zoological Society.
The BAMZ support charity is alerting its members and the public that a large crane will be on site at the Flatts facility for about a fortnight, lifting steel roofing materials for the upcoming Madagascar Exhibit. The steel bars are for a new free-flight enclosure being erected over the adjoining Australasia and Madagascar Exhibits.
The Madagascar Exhibit, due to open later this year, will feature numerous species from the eco-rich Indian Ocean island, including lemurs, a predatory fossa, tomato frogs, chameleons and radiated tortoises.
“The Australasia Exhibit remains closed at this time due to the construction, and for the safety of our visitors, the crane work will cause periodic closures of the Caribbean Exhibit as well,” says BAMZ Principal Curator Dr. Ian Walker. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete this exciting project.”
