Fulfil God's purpose for you, not someone else's dream
When one is not walking in purpose and destiny, he or she will live life according to the desires of another person.
That is where we find Moses in the text. He had seemingly settled into the good life, was married, had two children, and was working for his father-in-law.
With all of that, Moses was not doing the will of God. He was doing his father-in-law Jethro’s will, and looking after his sheep. Moses was not his own man; he was Jethro’s man. It would seem that Moses, who had been rescued from sure death, had settled for the mundane way of life.
It is kind of weird to consider that God spared Moses’ life as a baby and permitted him to grow up in a palace, just for Moses to end up watching someone else’s sheep on the backside of the desert.
Yet, what you must consider wonderful is that even while Moses was somewhat settled, God had not forgotten the purpose for which He permitted Moses to be born.
Sometimes in life, you can experience so much stress, drama, and scandal that you can actually give up on the divine purpose that God has mandated for your life.
Yet, God will cause you to be in a classroom of learning and you do not even know it.
That is where God had Moses. While Moses thought he was simply looking after sheep, God was teaching Moses how to look after sheep.
Why? God’s purpose over the life of Moses was that he would help deliver God’s sheep, God’s people, from out of a place of bondage.
While watching Jethro’s sheep, Moses learned the temperament of sheep, the behaviour of sheep, and the bad moves sheep make.
Yet being a wonderful shepherd, Moses learned how to care for the sheep, no matter what. Moses learned to take care of sheep that belonged to his father-in-law, and soon that training enabled Moses to look after the sheep of his Heavenly Father.
God’s people had been in bondage for quite a while. Yet that did not mean that God was not watching out for them.
In the process of time, God was preparing His servant Moses to go in and get the people out. However, before Moses could get the people out, Moses himself had to be delivered from his present mindset.
Moses was in bondage to another man’s dream. He was a runaway deliverer who was satisfied with doing the easy thing.
Moses may have been keeping Jethro’s sheep, but he was about to let go of Jethro’s sheep and grab hold of God’s will for his life. Without even knowing it, Moses was trained for a purpose that would return him back to a place that he had run away from.
Yet, this time, Moses was going into it a different man. Moses was going in to fulfil God’s purpose over his life.
Until you remember your own dream and your own goals, you will become a lackey for somebody else. What a shame that is! While Moses was satisfied where he was, there were people depending on him to move from where he was, and come and see about them.
Bermuda, be careful of those who want to run your life according to what you can do for them. Be very wary of that person who loves to use your gift so that they can look good.
Be tired of those who want to use you to get wealthy, all the while not caring that you have a dream and a hope that you must fulfil in your own life.
Be encouraged Bermuda. God is not through with you yet. No matter what your current place of abode, God has greater plans for you. Respice finem.
