Home furnishings store helps out young readers

THURSDAY, OCT. 4: Orange Bay Company has donated $2,000 to The Reading Clinic to aid with specialized testing and tutoring.

The home furnishing and accessories company provided the money to help children in the community who are in need.

In a press release today, Delight Morris, co-owner of Orange Bay Company, said: “By providing testing for dyslexia and specialized teaching on a not-for-profit basis, The Reading Clinic is providing an essential service to our community; helping kids who might otherwise fall through the cracks learn to read.”

 Rudy Morris, co-owner added: “We’re pleased to support The Reading Clinic and their efforts to improve literacy and give kids the tools they need to succeed. 

“The ability to read well is a key that opens many doors for a child; providing future opportunities that will enable them to become self-reliant, productive members of Bermuda society.”

Dr. Julie Dunstan, executive director of The Reading Clinic, said: “We are proud to be able to provide all children in need with access to our services, regardless of their families’ financial circumstances, and we simply would not be in a position to do that without the generosity and involvement of local businesses. 

“We are truly grateful to Rudy, Delight and the team at Orange Bay Company for their generous support and their example of giving back to our community. 

“It is the philanthropic spirit of our corporate citizens that allows The Reading Clinic to help children with learning difficulties to learn, grow and soar.”

Ms Morris added: “All of us in Bermuda have an obligation to help our youth and to our neighbours who are in need a hand up. 

“Working together through local charities, we can assist those who have immediate needs and create a better future for the entire community. 

“That’s the ‘better living’ philosophy we promote and practice at Orange Bay Company.”

Last week, AF Smith donated two iPads to the charity, which will be used for literacy and numeracy programmes.
