SATURDAY, MARCH 3: The district convention for the Lions Club of Nassau County, New York and Bermuda was held on island for the first time.
Members of district 20-K2 congregated in the Fairmont Southampton today for workshops, presentations and a luncheon.
Seventy-five members from New York flew down to join their Bermuda members.
In total, there were 129 Lions at the luncheon including Stephen Dean, the first Bermudian District Governor of District 20-K2.
The guest speaker for the event was Joe Al Picone, the international director of the Lions Club.
He is from Texas.
Addressing the group, he said: “Leadership isn’t something you check at the front desk when you leave this convention.
“Leadership is a state of mind and apart of who you are as a person.
“You don’t get to decide how you’re going to die or when.
“It depends on how you’re going to live.
“You see, everyone dies but not everyone lives.”
Mr Dean thanked Mr Al Picone for coming to Bermuda to speak at the convention.
“This whole convention has been a blessing with you being present and delivering such a moving speech for us.
“I think this is a great occasion.
“I am happy that we have so many here today.
“You have all made me so very proud.”
Before the speeches, Lions were treated to a wonderful lunch of fish chowder or caesar salad, salmon, ravioli or chicken for entrée and fruit salad or chocolate mousse for dessert.
