Age Concern Bermuda to Host a Community Discussion

Hamilton, Bermuda – February 8, 2012 – Age Concern Bermuda, today announced it will host a seniors’ community discussion on Saturday, February 11, between 10am to 12noon at Sandys Secondary Middle School.

Making the announcement was Age Concern Advocacy Committee Co-Chairman, Mr. Jonathan Brewin, “Age Concern is pleased to host a community discussion at Sandys Secondary Middle School. While the event is open to the general public, we encourage seniors from Sandys, Southampton and Warwick, in particular, to attend.

“The objectives of the meeting are to raise awareness amongst the candidates running in the next general election of the issues facing seniors and to create a platform for those candidates to participate in discussions directly with Bermuda’s seniors. The attendees will be given an opportunity to hear how the candidates plan to address seniors’ concerns once elected. There will also be a question and answer period.”

Mr. James McCulloch, Advocacy Co-Chairman added, “To this end, we have invited the three political parties, the PLP, OBA and UBP to send candidates. These candidates will represent constituencies in the western end of the island.

Mr. McCulloch concluded, “Based on a similar event held last October, we expect a fairly large number of attendees, especially seniors. Saturday’s community discussion is the first of three events which Age Concern will host throughout the island. We will host the next two discussions, in the central and eastern parishes, respectively, within the coming months.”
