Whether it’s learning about the Gulf Stream or discovering what grows in Sargasso weed, children have been fascinated by an interactive programme taking place at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.

The institute’s Explorer Series is this year focusing on the vast ocean and the tools scientists learn to better understand it.

As part of the programme students are able to learn about the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the ocean in a fun and interactive way. BIOS scientists were on hand to explain the various aspects of oceanography while answering the many questions the children had to ask.

The students also watched a film made by students on the Explorer science programme for teenagers. BIOS takes the students out on fieldtrips aboard the research vessel Explorer during the summer to learn about science and their natural environment.

The Bermuda Sun attended the programme while students from Warwick Academy were enjoying the programme.
