FRIDAY, DEC. 14: Students buried a time capsule full of letters, memories, photos and videos on the grounds of Warwick Academy today.

The large stainless steel box was donated to the school by former pupil Walter Sharpe and his family and it will be buried in the oldest part of the campus near the compass.

The project has been organized to coincide with Warwick Academy’s 350th birthday celebrations and the time capsule will be opened in 50 years.

Jane Vickers told the Sun: “Each of our classes was given a box and we gave the children an opportunity to fill it with pictures, drawings, letters, really anything they wanted to.

“Our hope is that they will keep in touch with Warwick Academy over the next 50 years and come back in 2062 when the time capsule is re-opened and look and reflect back on what they put in. “

Parents also joined in the project and wrote letters to their potential grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ms Vickers added: “It has been a very emotional experience for parents as they write about what their children mean to them and what they hope the next 50 years will be like for them realizing that most of us won’t be here when it is re-opened in 2062.”
