One thousand two hundred and thirty-five people turned up for Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy Charity 5K that took place on Sunday, February 24, the most ever in the four-year-old event. The $33,740 raised and 118 charities representing a myriad of causes were also all-time highs for this unique fundraiser where participants chose which charity received their entry fee as a donation.

Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy took place over a fully marshalled 5K route, which started and finished on Wesley Street, home to both the Argus Group and The Centre on Philanthropy. Five dollars from each entry fee goes to the support of Volunteer.bm run by The Centre on Philanthropy. The website is Bermuda’s online portal for volunteering and enables members of the community to search for opportunities that match their interests and availability. There are currently more than 140 non-profit organisations that use the site to recruit and manage volunteers.

The twelve charities generating the most support were:

Danielle Riviere, Interim Executive Director of The Centre on Philanthropy, says: “The event continues to grow from year to year and what we’re really pleased with is how effective the charities have been in rallying people to walk for them. This walk is a great opportunity for charities to engage their existing supporters and find new ones. So once again we thank Argus for being so supportive, all the other organisations and volunteers who pitched in and, of course, all the walkers.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer of the Argus Group, says: “We are incredibly proud of our partnership with The Centre on Philanthropy for this unique 5K event. Argus Walks the Walk touches charities all over the island. It is also a great event for mobilising members of the public to give something back to the community and generate positivity in Bermuda. There is always a fantastic buzz on the day when you have over one thousand walkers out pounding the pavement for various causes while getting some exercise at the same time and Argus is very happy to support that happening.”

A special thank you to the three Guest Judges for the Most Spirit competition: The Hon. Michael Fahy, Minister of Home Affairs; Senator Lynne Woolridge, Head of International Life & Annuity at the Argus Group and the Rt. Wor. Graeme Outerbridge, Mayor of Hamilton.
