Delta and American price war to New York continues

The battle for New York is being waged, but the real winner is Bermuda residents.

Both American Airlines and Delta Airlines have extended their seat sales to the city until April 1.

Delta has started a new direct flight from Bermuda to New York City’s LaGuardia airport with a roundtrip cost of $280. American matched as the pair are trying to lure travellers into using them.

Kim Darrell, general manager at Meyer-Franklin Travel, said: “This is good news for residents. At the end of the day, this is not the time a lot of people are travelling — summertime is their big peak season so, obviously, they’re trying to fill their flights.”

She said those trying to get a bargain can do so as travel is good until June 13.

“It’s not going to help that much for Easter for a lot of people have already purchased their tickets. After Easter there’s no breaks for kids until summertime, but for somebody that might want to do a long weekend, there’s an advantage in that.”

She said the $280 round trip, including taxes “is a really good fare and Delta is trying to push their LaGuardia flight with American matching it.” n

She said the Bermuda to Miami flight is at a good price also with American having it on sale for $476

“That normally runs in the $600 to $700 range so that’s a pretty good fare if you’re trying to get to Miami for a cruise between now and June.”

She said other places like Las Vegas is a beehive of activity and American also has good prices for them as well.

Other American Airlines destinations on sale include: Toronto, Orlando, Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco.

For American, Tickets must be purchased seven days in advance before departure. You have to have a minimum two-day stay or Saturday overnight. The maximum stay is 30 days and there are blackout days.

All travel must be completed by June 13.

There are additional restrictions on the Toronto route, but it could be the answer for the reduced flights by Air Canada for travellers.
