A snake sparked a scare at the exclusive Tucker’s Point Resort today after it was discovered on the golf course.
The snake was taken away by animal experts and handed over to the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo (BAMZ).
The snake is thought to be a southern black racer — a non-venomous snake common in the Florida area.
One person said the snake was about three-feet long but black racers can grow up to 70 inches long, and generally crush their prey to death before eating it. Government said the snake was euthanized.
No one from Tucker’s Point was available for comment and staff at the BAMZ declined to comment.
The snakes are named for their colour, largely black with a grey belly and a white chin, and their speed.
It is not known how the snake travelled from the US to the greens of Tucker’s Point. It is not the first time a snake sighting has caused panic in Bermuda — four years ago, Jobson’s Cove was shut off for two days after a US police officer on holiday spotted a black-and-white banded snake thought to be a venomous sea krait, but it was never found.
