Man jailed for slapping woman
A father was today jailed after he admitted slapping a woman at a social club.
Kyjuan Saltus, 33, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to assaulting Erica DeMello on March 3 in Devonshire.
The court heard the defendant and complainant were at a youth tournament at the Devonshire Recreation Club that day with their children.
Between 12:30pm and 1pm, Ms DeMello received a phone call on her cell phone.
Saltus became jealous and slapped the victim open handed three times.
In court, Saltus, a father-of-four, said he only slapped her once and blamed his actions on a stressful period in his life.
He also requested a non-custodial sentence.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner sentenced Saltus to ten days in prison from today.Â
