What's 'Appening: App hits a few wrong notes

One would expect an app promoting the arts to be inspiring, but, unfortunately the Bermuda Festival app comes up short on several accounts. 

That’s not to say there are useful parts to the app, because there are, but there are as many misses as there are hits.

The main page of the app has a colourful orange and magenta logo with various types of the arts on it.

The first section ‘About’ has six subsections. Trying to read any of the things written in the ‘History’ subsection is difficult with grey writing on a greyish-white background. It’s off-putting and certainly does not encourage a person try to digest the information on the page.

Unfortunately, it is a theme repeated throughout the app.

There is an easy way to sign up for the Bermuda Festival newsletters under ‘Subscribe’ subsection. All you have to do is fill in your name and e-mail address and hit submit and you’re done. 

The ‘Performers’ section has nice snapshots of the various acts with times they are performing. You can also go one level deeper and get a brief bio of each of the performers and how much the tickets cost. 

It would have been great if the app designers had added a 30-second audio or video clip to hear the performers. That certainly would have been made the app more appealing and given it some value added for people downloading it.

One nice feature, which is at the end of each bio, is an orange bar that you can tap to buy tickets at www.bdatix.bm. It is a convenient way to get the seats you want without fuss. 

That option should have been repeated on the section ‘Buy Tickets’. Instead, you get a list of phone numbers to call or places where you can physically go and purchase them. 

The ‘Programmes’ section also has a list of the acts, but they are not available at this time. The app says “House programmes will be available closer to the event.”

Overall, the app is useful if you are looking to find out some brief info about the acts and being able to purchase the tickets in an easy manner, but the design could have been better.
