Camping, crafts and community service are some of the skills celebrated at the St Paul’s Anglican Church Girls Brigade’s annual Awards ceremony.
The girls being awarded ranged from five to 16 years old, including three girls who will have completed their silver level and bronze level Duke of Edinburgh Awards this year.
The evening was highlighted by a drill presentation commanded by one of the Junior leaders, Miss Constance Solis who received training under the command of the Bda Cadet Corps of the Bermuda Regiment.
“She is testament to what perseverance and commitment can produce for our young leaders. We are extremely grateful for the assistance o f the Regiment and the partnership that we have formed to further develop our young leaders,” said a Brigade spokeswoman.
Participants also remembered founding Captain Mrs Lorraine Farrell, who passed in February of this year. In her memory and honour, the brigade introduced a special cup to be called the “Faith Award” which will be awarded next year.
Mr Cecil Downs is husband of the late Gertrude Downs, who introduced the brigades to Bermuda in the 50s.
He proudly presented the Founder’s Shield, in his wife’s memory, to Eva Frazzoni and Tashae Trott. Other Cup awardees were Miss D’Jae Gilbert who shared with Miss Frazzoni for Team Spirit-Leila Conyers’ Cup. Also in attendance were the nieces of Leila Conyers, Ghale Smith, Sheila Conyers and Pam Carlington.
Miss Kheli Augustus was awarded the cup for Courtesy, and Miss Loria Packwood for Most Improved.
The ceremony was held at the St Paul’s Christian Education Centre, Peter C Evans Hall, Paget, earlier this month.
