The BSRA Released the draws for the 2014 DIGICEL Bermuda National Squash Championships today announcing that 90+ players will take part in the 4 categories vying for the title of Bermuda National Squash Champion.
Top Seeds in the Men’s & Ladies Championships are defending champions Patrick Foster and Runa Reta. Runa Reta is seeded to meet former champion Liz Martin in the semifinals followed by either Laura Robinson or Rachel Barnes in the final. Robinson is a past National champion and current BSRA Club champion whilst Barnes is competing in the US for top College squash team Bowdoin. Whoever makes it through will have to be at their best to topple Reta the former World #26 ranked player and Bermuda National team coach.
Things are very interesting in the Men’s event with defending champ Foster at #2 seed in the bottom half of the draw scheduled to meet New York based and 2012 finalist Robert Maycock for a place in the final. The top half of the draw is extremely tough with past champion and former world #63 Nick Kyme scheduled for a quarter final clash with newcomer John Fletcher whilst top seed and world #175 Micah Franklin plays top college squash star Noah Browne also at quarter final stage.
BSRA Director of Squash Patrick Foster commented “This year we have an excellent entry again not only in size but in the quality of players. The Veterans, Ladies and Men’s events are all wide open and we could see new champions for 2014. It should be a great week”
Shane McDonnell Sales Director of Digicel added “Digicel is proud to be sponsoring the Bermuda National Squash Championships for the 7th year. We look forward to seeing the players battle it out and wish all of them the best of luck”
The Digicel Bermuda National Squash Championships are to be held March 17-22 at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association in Devonshire. Matches begin nightly from 6pm with the finals being held from 5pm on Saturday 22nd March.
