MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4: Nahki Wells eased himself back into League Two duty with his 18th goal of the season at the weekend.
The Bermuda striker was in action for the first time since Bradford City’s euphoric Capital One Cup semi-final triumph over Premier League Aston Villa.
That win means the 22-year-old — who is being trailed by a number of Championship clubs — has a Wembley final to look forward to on Feburary 24 when he will become only the third player from this island to grace the turf at the home of football.
On Saturday Wells’ superb strike direct from a free-kick brought the teams level but it wasn’t enough to inspire victory for the Bantams who had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Fleetwood Town.
City boss Phil Parkinson was upset, though, with the referee’s failure to penalize a challenge — more of a wrestle — on Wells in the penalty area. Bradford then conceded a penalty with after a harsh handball decision.
Parkinson said: “Nahki’s been flattened in the middle of the goal and not got a penalty. Then at the other end we get a ball smashed at a player from two yards. It really is so harsh to drop two points in that manner.”
City sit in 10th spot in League Two, three places and five points off the play-off places.
