Bridging the gap: A cyclist crosses the Causeway into St. George's during Sunday's Escape to Bermuda triathlon on Sunday morning. U.S. star Matt Reed won the event in 1:55:10 with Aussie Simon Thompson second and German Michael Raelert third. England's Jodie Swallow (2:05.56) won the women's event followed by Americans Sarah Groff and Becky Lavelle. Bermuda's Tyler Butterfield was 11th overall in a time of 2:01.37, his wife-to-be Nikki Egyed was ninth in the women's event in 2:22.03. Perennial Bermuda champ Evan Naude was first amateur over the line in 2:14.59 beating some of the pro women. Kim McMullen was the first local female to finish in 2:36.57. She and Naude qualify for the prestigious Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon along with a host of other local amateurs including Peter Mills, Reid Robinson, Ashley Kirkpatrick, Evan Naude, Mark Morrison and Carolyn Conway, who won their age-groups.[[In-content Ad]]
