A mix of chic and magnifique

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8: The Bermuda Fashion Collective Show proved that the island is home to some incredibly talented fashion designers.

It was a full house at the second annual Bermuda Society of Arts show on Friday night although Premier Paula Cox did not attend  this year. Amethyst, who designs some of her clothes, pulled out of the show at the last minute.

The evening opened with René Hill’s collection of luxury scarves. Now, who said scarves were supposed to keep your neck warm? These were creatively slung over a shoulder, wrapped precariously around a waist or even crowned around a head. These are all luxurious wools and the colours were paired beautifully.

New to Bermuda‘s scene, Consuelo Verde Perrin has worked in the fashion worlds of Milan and Paris. Among her collection were items of clothing you might never before have fathomed like an artful shoulder scarf or wrist fascinator. They set the imagination off and stayed true to her fairy-tale inspiration.

Next up was Nicole Iris who clearly had a lot of fun with her collection. There was no consistent theme with her clothes ranging from a playful Mini Mouse like dress to bold burnt orange prints and then humble Africa-inspired men’s summer wear. It was a vibrant and at times daring collection that hopefully will be picked up by more than just her friends at Cup Match from now on.

Inspired by the Spike Lee film School Daze along with 1950s fashion, Shay Ford’s collection was sexy and striking. Blue cottons, mixed with African prints setting off neon accents made this a truly unique collection.

Beautifully tailored, it mixed extremely wearable dresses, jumpsuits, skirts and tops with 80’s exaggerated futuristic shapes and angles.

Dana Cooper brought to the runway her cheeky new collection of men’s and women’s swimwear in blossom print along with attractive and eclectic designs for her summer wraps and tunics. 

A men’s tailor by trade, Edith Rookes’ couture collection allowed her to get unashamedly in touch with her feminine side. Floral jumpsuits, elegant silk dresses and dominant skirts were the order of the day.

 Ashley Aitken displayed a cute new style of shorts with a daring leopard print at the centre and a collection of summery dresses. Her multi layered purple and turquoise skirt and indulgent deep purple cross backed dress stood out.

Finally Dean Williams went for a mix of bold coloured designs with earthy fabrics made glamorous with daring cuts and matches.
