Bank of Bermuda Foundation invites athletes to sign up for 2010 triathlon

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9: Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon will be held at Clearwater Beach, St. David’s on Sunday, 26 September, 2010. The location change was made for both logistic and celebratory reasons, as this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation’s sponsorship of the Triathlon. Along with a safer and more open space, Clearwater Beach presents an additional benefit of allowing junior triathletes to compete in a full triathlon (swim, cycle, run), where previous years and location allowed for only a duathlon (run, cycle, run). Race Director Ian Pilgrim of the Bermuda Triathlon Association noted that it would not be possible to run the event without the very generous support of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation year after year.

The event will hold many races including the Individual Sprint Triathlon and Team Sprint Triathlon for adults, comprising of a 750 metre swim, a 20K cycle and a 5K run. There will also be the Individual Junior and Team Triathlon for younger athletes. They will be split into two categories; ages 7-10 and 11-14. Juniors aged 7 to 10 will swim 100 meters, cycle 5K and run 1K, while the 11 – 14 year olds will swim 200 metres, cycle 10K and run 2K. Check in for all athletes begins at 7:30 a.m. Detailed rules regarding eligibility will be included on the entry forms which are available in the designated locations. Participants are urged to enter online at  www.racedayworld.com and entry forms are also available now at Sportseller in the Washington Mall, Winner’s Edge on Front Street, and Bicycle Works on Woodlands Road.

Bank of Bermuda Foundation and the Bermuda Triathlon Association are hoping for record numbers of participants for the event this year, which will include breakfast for all participants and volunteers after the event at Clearwater. Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon is an annual event to be marked on the calendar of every local athlete and last year over 320 adult and junior athletes entered the race. The course will be competitive and challenging for those participating and a great thrill for the community to witness. David Lang, Director and Secretary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation said, “Bank of Bermuda Foundation is very pleased to be the Title Sponsor of the year’s most popular triathlon.  Triathlon is a demanding sport and provides healthy competition for both teams and individuals, juniors and adults.  We hope the competition in 2010 will be as fierce as it has been in past years but no matter who wins the enjoyment of participation is to be shared by all.”
