Cancer charity hopes for Full House at Casino fundraiser
TUESDAY, MAY 29: This Saturday, members of the community are invited to “gamble” in the name of charity.
A Casino Night has been planned to raise money for Melange, a cancer charity.
The event will take place from 7pm to 10pm at the Bermuda Society of Arts.
There will be complimentary signature cocktails, a cash bar, canapés, $25 given in chips to gamble and a live art auction.
Renee Carter of Melange said: “You’ll walk the red carpet through the flash of lights, as you enter BSOA.
“We’ll have six gambling tables with professional dealers throughout the room provided by our party designer, Alicia Virgil of Bermuda Promotional Products.
“You’ll be greeted with a complimentary cocktail created by Burrows and Lightbourne and food is by Wilks Catering.”
The MC for the evening is Keevil ‘The Captain’ Burgess and Gladwin ‘Omar’ Lodge will be the DJ.
Ms Carter continued: “Our live auction has great donations from the likes of artist Manuel Palacio, a golf package from Belmont Hills, Inner Sanctum spa certificate and other great gifts.
“Big gambling winners are eligible to win a Fairmont Hamilton Princess two-night gold stay, Bolero Brasserie gift certificate and cook book, and Elbow Beach Spa.
“We have door prizes from Barritt’s and others, so even if you don’t gamble, you still have a chance to win something.”
Cablevision, Kathy’s Kafe, Dr Terry-Lynn Emery, Klimex, Smiles Inc, Encon and Alumiglas have sponsored some of the tables at the event.
Tremendous help
“This is a tremendous help which allots us to build a surplus for our cause, which is to help those with cancer assistance to pay for their prescriptions.
“I know personally how important it is when your health insurance doesn’t pay for your prescriptions and you need it to survive and it’s a toss up what you salary affords monthly.
“A very precarious situation one has to consider if they have HIP or other policies that do not cover prescriptions.
“Those with good insurance never consider, ‘What if?’ since they’re covered.”
Ms Carter continued: “Melange is a group of dedicated people who first hand knows what its like to have cancer, survive it and to have it revisit.
“You’re never prepared, so we’d like to be there for those when it happens.
“We fundraise as often as we can and we give of ourselves even more, because we know.”
Tickets are $100 in advance and $125 at the door. For more information, email Ms Carter at [email protected].
