Chewstick party celebrates eight years and expansion
The Chewstick Foundation is starting the new year with two celebrations. Not only is the artistic charity reaching its eighth anniversary, it is expanding its venue to new premises across the road on the corner of Court Street and Elliott Street.
The 8th Anniversary Celebration of the Chewstick Movement takes place on January 1 at the Spinning Wheel Entertainment Complex on Court Street.
It will be the final Chewstick show at this, it’s long time home, ahead of the opening the new facility, situated at ground level above its existing Neo Griot lounge.
The night will not only showcase Bermudian artistic talent but will also serve as a much needed fundraising event to support the expanding facility.
The new facility will be the base for programmes for artist development, community outreach and cultural enrichment.
The charity aims to raise $50,000 from the anniversary event.
Celebrations will begin with a Patrons Reception, sneak peak at the new Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge and Café from 7pm until 9pm. Festivities will then move across the street to The Spinning Wheel Entertainment Complex for the anniversary show where eight artists will perform: Joy T. Barnum, Aden Peets, Stephan Johnstone, Tiffany Paynter, K.A.S.E., Jammin’, Canjelae and D’Warning before the DJs takeover and the dancing begins.
Tickets for the 8th Anniversary Celebrations will be sold for $30 (general) and $150 (patron) and are available between 9am and 5pm at The Chewstick Headquarters or by contacting Chewstick at 292-2439 or emailing [email protected]
